The Old State Capitol is hosting a month-long special display in honor of the 75th anniversary of the United We Stand campaign during WWII.  In July of 1942, President Roosevelt asked American magazine companies to include an American flag on their cover in some fashion.  The intent of the campaign was to raise public morale during a time of anxiety after we had recently entered WWII. The magazine’s patriotic covers spoke to the patriotism and unity of the American people during difficult times.  The publications were also asked to join this campaign as a show of solidarity for the planned July 4th air force attack of German-occupied territory—the first such American bombing strike of the war.
